Kettering Lions Community Grant Award

September 8, 2018

Burton Latimer Scouts were the recent winners of 1 of 5 Kettering Lions Community Grant Awards.
There were awarded £500 after a successful application for funding towards survival camping equipment.
The presentations took place back in July.

Below is an account of the evening taken from the Lions Facebook page.

Kettering Lions Community Grant Scheme

At Kettering Lions recent Community Grant Scheme cheque presentation evening, the Lions enjoyed hearing more information about each of the 5 groups/organisations that had been successfully awarded £500 each through the annual scheme, and more details about what they planned to spend the money on…
Kettering Friends of the Library plan to use the money to purchase three furnished dolls houses for the library, arranged as a street (Lions had a lovely surprise during the presentation when the street sign was unveiled as ‘Lions Square’). These dolls houses, complete with dolls from different ethnic groups, will provide lots of fun for the children who visit the library.
Barton Seagrave Community Centre, used by various local groups, plan to put the money towards redecorating the community centre.
Our grant will go towards buying paint and materials for the hall.
1st Burton Latimer Scout Group has found their 45 Scouts would like to do more “survival” type camping.
They plan to use the money to buy a “bivvi kit” comprising of hammocks, Tarps, Paracord etc that they can use for building their shelters to sleep in.
These would not just be limited for use by the Scouts, the Beavers and Cubs could also use them to learn how to build shelters, so that when they are older, they too could sleep out in them.
1101 Squadron (Kettering and District) Air Training Corps
are planning to use the money towards the purchase of a “half and half” mini-bus.
This would mean that the Squadron are able to transport both cadets and equipment safely in the same bus.
Providing opportunities to participate in trips away from the squadron and giving the cadets lots of opportunities to develop themselves.
All Saints Church in Kettering, used by various local groups as a meeting point, have been busy fund-raising for new much needed boilers.
Our grant for £500 will go towards the costs for new boilers, which will make the building more attractive and friendly to the current users and potential hirers.
Last but not least, Kettering Lions were able to present special Lions International Centennial certificates to Denise MacKay (Johnny’s Happy Place) and Kelly Mercer for their work in the Kettering community.
These special awards are to celebrate 100 years of Lions International and show our appreciation for special individuals in the local area of the local Lions club that have given something to their community.
Thanks to everyone who attended the presentation.
